Fight Team Update

Jake started teaching Gracie Jui Jitsu at the Fairtex Combat Acadamey in March 2002. One of his students, Gilbert Melendez, was also a good friend from their time on the San Francisco State Wrestling team. Within a few months Jake was teaching Gil and other advanced students MMA. Gilbert now has a 14-0 record and is ranked 4th in the world in the lightweight division.

Gil, the first member of the team, is part of its heart; training, teaching, coaching. The team is growing and has several very tough up and coming fighters. Profiles are on the way.

March 31 st

This Saturday Dan Marks fought and won another impressive victory. At only :56 seconds of the first round, Marks finished Albert Hill with a tight armbar, forcing the tapout.
After an odd spinning back kick attempt, Marks settled down and secured a deep double-leg take down that saw his opponent being lifted well over Marks' head and subsequently slammed to the canvas below. Marks held on to side control and methodically attacked Hill's left arm.
Marks' last two fight have lasted a combined time of one minute and forty three seconds.
Dan now as a 6-1 record.

March 23, 2007 update from Jack

The Jackson Rancheria put on a good show last night. 155 pounder, Frank Gomez had a dominating performance against Brandon Jinnies, winning a unamious decision, improving his record to 3-0.   185 pounder, Javier Mcay made his debut with a spectacular knockout, a highlight reel kick to the head against Cody Schultz

March 1, 2007 update from Sal Russo

Gilbert Melendez, 155 lbs. recently defeated Kalijiri in an excitng match on PRIDE's big New Years Eve show. He now moves on to fight in PRIDE's Lightweight Grand Prix, scheduled to start in May

Frank Gomez , 155 pounds, now has a record of 2 and 0. He defeated his oponent at the PXC show in Guam, with a submission from elbow strikes from in his downed opponents guard.

Jimmy Jarquin who is also a 155 pounder was handed a draw on his trip to the PXC in Guam last month. After soundly defeating his opponent 2 rounds to 1. There was a point deduction due to an unintentional late hit and that made the fight even in the judges eyes. Jimmy’s record is 1-1-1

Danny Marks won his fight this past weekend improving his record to 5-1. Danny defeated his opponent Erin Johnston at the Caged Combat Show in Santa Rosa with a choke at 37 seconds of the first round.

In the next month the Jake Shields Fight Team has a busy schedule. Jimmy Jarquin and Katrina Allendel aned Dan Marks will be fighting on March 31st in Chaos at Kezar. Dan will be facing Glen Cordoza.
